Lakota West High School FRESHMAN Campus Announcements
March 16, 2018 
Lakota West Football and Basketball Cheer tryouts will be held April 16 & 17.  Clinic is on April 16, 3:00- 6:00 p.m. and tryouts will be held April 17, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Both days are at Lakota West Freshman School.  Candidates must have a completed physical and final form information filled out prior to tryouts.  Information packets are available from Mrs. Armbruster in the Main Office.

Join the French Club in celebrating April Fish Day, on March 22nd after school in room 104 at the main campus.

Attention students who will be driving during the 2018-2019 school year. 

West Main Campus parking applications are now available in the main office.  The only future drivers needing to pick up an application are those who will be driving before the end of the first quarter.  If you will not be driving by the end of the first quarter you will wait to apply for a parking pass after the start of school in August. 

Stop by the main office and see Mrs. Sparks with any questions.

Friday School is in room 225 in the C Hallway with Mrs. Harper.  Please arrive promptly at 2:30 and be prepared to work on current or missing assignments until 5:00.

Northern Kentucky University’s 9th Annual Multicultural Leadership Conference - May 18th and 19th (the conference does not start until 4:30- students will not miss school on Friday 18th).  This conference is designed for multicultural, high school juniors with an interest in enhancing their leadership qualities. Specifically for students in top 1/3 of their class OR 3.0 Non-weighted GPA OR 2.5 Non-weighted GPA WITH Great LEADERSHIP SKILLS!


If you would like to be nominated, please sign up in Guidance by 3pm Thursday, March 22rd!!

The Visual Arts Department is proud to announce that 5 students were awarded national awards at the 2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.  Gold medal recipients will have their artwork displayed in New York City.  Award winning students, their parents, and their art teacher are invited to attend the National Award Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in June. 

Jennifer Ellison received a Silver Medal for her drawing “Coming to Life”.

Cecilia Farrar received a Gold Medal for her painting “Opa’s Chair”.

Grace McCaughy received a Gold Medal for her drawing “Grubby Little Hands”

Trey Small received a Gold Medal for his drawing “Eye on the Sparrow”

Olivia Stock received a Gold Medal for her photograph “Drowning”

Relay for Life’s March of Change is continuing. Bring in money to your fourth bell class this week to March 23, and the class that raises the most money will receive a pizza party

Do you want to win free tickets to the Prom or the After Prom? Enter the Where in the World Contest or the Welcome Home to Cincinnati contest. The photos are hanging outside of the Front Office!

Juniors and Seniors would you like to go to After Prom? But you cant stay awake until 4 am? There is a form to obtain permission to leave earlier this year, Look in the front office.

The initial kickoff for the Women Empowering Women group will be this Monday, March 19 in room 146 after school.  There will be snacks! 

Senior graduate signs are now available for $10 in the front office. See Mrs. Henley.

Attention Students interested in taking Summer PE, Credit Recovery or Advanced Credit Courses:  Registration is open now until April 6th.  Students can register for all classes through their EZpay accounts.  Please visit the Secondary Summer School website for additional information.

Students…do you plan on taking College Credit Plus classes next year at either West or on a College Campus?  If so, please remember the College Credit Plus Intent form deadline date of April 1st, 2018 is fast approaching.  However, due to Lakota's Spring break (March 23rd through April 2nd), the Intent form should be submitted to the Guidance department by March 23rd at 3:00 pm at the latest. If there is a reason that the Intent form can not be submitted by March 23rd, you may submit the Intent form to your student's School Counselor via email on or before April 1st, 2018.  If you choose to mail the Intent form it MUST be postmarked on/or before April 1st, 2018 to be accepted.  Late forms CAN NOT be accepted.

Juniors interested in studying BUSINESS: Check your e-mail regarding the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner Honors Plus meeting/breakfast. Resumes must be submitted to the Guidance Office by 3/23/2018

Seniors- PTSO scholarship applications are available in the Front office and Guidance Office. They are due April 6 to Mrs. Henley in the Front Office.

AP Exam Registration is fast approaching for students currently enrolled in an AP course. AP Exams will be held May 7th – 18th. Registration for these exams will begin soon.  AP Exam Registration Information:
  • AP Exam Registration will be open from March 1st thru March 16th.
  • NEW THIS YEAR: Families will be able to register and pay for AP exams through EZ Pay. The option to pay by check or cash in the Guidance Office is also available during the March 1st thru March 16th
  • Each AP Exam is $94.00, as determined by the College Board.
  • Students on F/R lunch are eligible for a discount and should register in the Guidance Office.
  • If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Kira Murphy in the Guidance Office.

Volunteer Opportunities

Reach Out Lakota is again seeking volunteers to help on Monday evenings.

Volunteers will bring donations from the shed in the back of the building into our sorting area from 4-6pm. This opportunity is open to students that are at least 16 years old and who are able to lift and carry bags or boxes of donations.

Scholarship Opportunities

PTSO scholarships are available in the Guidance office and in the Front office. They are due April 6, in the Main Office

Joe Nuxhall Scholarship:  The Fairfield Community Foundation has given Lakota West $2000 to award to student athletes. We will be awarding 2 scholarships for $1000 to 1 male, and 1 female athlete. The Committee will pay particular attention to academics, financial need, athletic involvement, extracurricular activities, community service, and leadership.  To apply, please turn in a resume and a short personal statement (300 words or less) turned in to Guidance by Friday March 16th. The Jeff Stamper Scholarship: $500 one time scholarship awarded to a male athlete, with a preference to multi sport athletes. 3.5 Gpa and up preferred; Additional Information can be picked up in Guidance
